  • The Australian Catholic University commissioned Harmer Architecture to design and refurbish the existing teaching and learning facility for the Bachelor of Nursing in Building 104 of the ACU Ballarat Campus.

Completed in 2021, the new simulation wards enable ACU Ballarat Campus to maintain accreditation of the Bachelor of Nursing curriculum by ANMAC and the requirement to provide access to teaching of clinical skills as an adjunct to clinical experience.

The new wards greatly improve the teaching and learning experience for nursing students on campus and provide the faculty with new facilities, which consist of:

1. Nursing Simulation 8 bed Wards x 2

2. Steri Room

3. Drug Room

4. Pan Room

5. Immersive Simulation Ward

6. Observation Classroom

7. Breakout Spaces

Client Testimonial

“In 2020-2021, ACU worked with Harmer architecture to redevelop and optimize the clinical teaching for the discipline of nursing at the Ballarat Mair St campus.

We found that Philip Harmer, Andrew Briant and the entire team excellent to work with. They listened to the brief and understood both our aspirations for the learning spaces and the inevitable limitations of resources. We enjoyed a respectful and professional working relationship with the team and communications and updates on progress were thorough and timely.

The Harmer team were solutions focused in the planning and execution of the build. Work was completed on time and to an exceptional standard. Attention to detail is evident in that there have been no aspects of the build that have required recall or repair.

I have no hesitation recommending Harmer Architecture and would be happy to discuss this recommendation. ”

Associate Professor Loretto (Rett) Quinney | Deputy Head of School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedicine. Australian Catholic University.
